Suspects linked to multiple street robberies arrested in Khayelitsha

On Tuesday, 29 July, a street robbery occurred in Kensington, Cape Town. The vehicle linked to the incident was loaded to the Vehicle of Interest (VOI) database.

Three days later, on Friday 1 August, Makhaza SAPS reported that the same vehicle had just been involved in a violent street robbery in Makhaza, Khayelitsha. Minutes later, the vehicle moved through Philippi, where it triggered an alert on Platform1-connected License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras.

Although the vehicle was on cloned number plates, LPR technology ensured it was correctly identified. The Flying Squad and K9 units responded swiftly, intercepting the vehicle and arresting all three suspects. They were taken to the Makhaza SAPS station and the investigation is ongoing.

Thank you to all our uniformed partners. This success – from intelligence escalation to rapid response – reflects the power of effective collaboration.
